US President Donald Trump on Saturday ordered the air force to bomb Houthi targets in the cities of Sanaa and Saada, carrying out heavy airstrikes.
Trump said he would launch a series of airstrikes if the Houthi group did not stop its attacks on commercial shipping.
“Our brave warfighters are now conducting airstrikes targeting terrorist bases, leaders and missile defenses to protect American shipping,” Trump said.
He added that terrorist groups do not have the ability to harm American commercial shipping anywhere in the world. He also issued a warning to the Iranian government, which backs the Houthi movement.
The Houthi group told the media that large explosions were heard Saturday evening in the city of Sanaa and the northern province of Saada, which borders Saudi Arabia, according to the AP news agency. The Houthis added that the attacks killed 13 civilians.
The Houthis, angered by the Israeli massacre in Gaza, have begun attacking Israeli and Western ships.
