The President of the Somaliland Administration, A/rahman Irro, said at the UAE Conference that the United States should be the first government to recognize Somaliland.

The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, who participated in the World Conference of Governments in Dubai, said that he hopes that the United States will be the first country to recognize Somaliland, and he also said that he will sign an agreement with Ethiopia before the end of this year.

President Cirro mentioned that Somaliland is a democracy and hopes that due to its administrative system it will receive awards from the world. He especially emphasized that he expects recognition from the United States and British governments.

“Since we are a democratic government, we hope for a reward from the international community. We hope that all the countries of the world, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, will recognize us, but now we especially hope that the United States will be the first country to recognize Somaliland,” said President Irro.

On the other hand, the president talked about Somaliland’s relations with neighboring countries and the development of Berbera Port. He said that the port has been modernized and its biggest market is Ethiopia. Therefore, before this year ends, he said he will sign a major agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia.

The CEO of DP World, which spent 450 million dollars on the construction of the port, airport and road in Berbera, also said that the port will be connected to the Ethiopian market, and Berbera is one of the most strategic places for Ethiopian business.

Somaliland reached an agreement with Ethiopia last year to lease a naval base from Ethiopia, while it was said that Ethiopia will recognize Somaliland.But after a year, the agreement was not changed to an official agreement. On the other hand, there are talks going on between Ethiopia and Somalia, and it is expected that Ethiopia will get a sea passage through Somalia.
