The representative of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, announced that the AUSSOM mission has officially taken over from ATMIS, saying that this mission focuses on peace and stability in Somalia.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef pointed out that the new operation is based on the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the decisions of the African Union, saying that he is working on security operations in the country.
The ambassador praised the ATMIS forces, the Federal Government of Somalia, and international friends who supported the peace efforts and reconstruction of the country.
The ambassador also praised Somalia for its achievements in peace, security, and development, noting that the year 2024 was historic.
Souef called on all Somali parties to continue solidarity and cooperation to achieve the goal of lasting peace, sustainable development, and national unity.
