The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has expressed concern about the military aid given by the Egyptian government to Somalia, saying that it will end up in the hands of terrorist groups.

This statement was made a day after an Egyptian warship landed heavy weapons in Mogadishu.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Taye Astke Selassie, said that he is concerned that the supplies provided by foreign forces will worsen Somalia’s fragile security, adding that it will end up in the hands of Somali terrorists.

Ethiopia, which has thousands of troops in Somalia, disagreed with Mogadishu’s plan to get a port and a military base in Somali waters, through an agreement with the Somaliland administration.

Egypt, which is in conflict with Ethiopia, sent two shipments of weapons to Mogadishu within a month, after they jointly signed a security agreement in August.
