The East African Community (EAC) has started a conference in Nairobi to promote the integration of Somalia and the EAC community.

The Secretary General of the EAC, Veronica Muini Ndui Nduiva, said that Somalia became a full member of the EAC in March, after it officially submitted its agreement to join the organization.

Somalia’s entry into the EAC is said to enable Somalia to benefit from EAC regional infrastructure projects, such as railways and energy.

Nduva said that the Roadmap will include activities to be carried out jointly by Somalia and the EAC.

The Special Envoy of Somalia in charge of the East African community, Abdisalam Omar Hadliye, has expressed positive hopes for the collaborative efforts in shaping Somalia’s plan for the integration of the East African community.

“Somalia continues to strengthen its commitment to realizing the goals of the East African community, which will promote unity, prosperity and peace in the entire region,” he said.
