The Puntland police force in Mudug region, which conducted an anti-piracy operation in the city of Galkayo, arrested the leader of the pirate group that took $5 million in ransom from the MV Abdalla ship.
Abshir Abdi Kheyre Jowfe, 38 years old, who was the commander of MV Abdalla, was arrested in this operation which was carried out by the army in the neighborhood of Sinai in the north of Galkayo city.
The Chief of Mudug Regional Police G/Sare Mohamud Abdihakin Yusuf has sent a strong message to everyone involved in banditry, underlining that they will bring the gangs involved in banditry to justice.
He is the third suspect to be arrested for his involvement in the pirate attack on the MV Abdallah ship, who took a ransom of five million dollars.
When the pirates took the ransom, they hid in the cities of Puntland. Some of them are said to be on the coast, where they are also organizing other attacks on commercial ships.
