The government of Somalia welcomed the leaders of al-Shabaab, who surrendered to the government, taking advantage of the amnesty granted by President Hassan Sheikh to anyone who wants to live in peace in his country.

The government said in recent weeks, that a hundred fighters and leaders who belonged to Al-Shabaab surrendered in Galmudug, Hirshabelle, South West, Jubbaland and Mogadishu areas.

The government said it welcomed and cared for the surrendered members.

“The government of Somalia is encouraging the youths who have been wronged by the enemy to surrender to their government, and the government is also praising the role of Somali parents in excluding their children from the Khawarij.” It was said in a press release issued by the Ministry of Information of the Government of Somalia.

The government has said that it is committed to the elimination of the Al-Shabaab group, pointing out that anyone who ignores the President of Somalia’s amnesty will face justice.
