Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Mohamed Ali, addressed the Federal Government’s stance on regional tensions, relations with partner nations, and the necessity for Somalia to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests.

The Deputy Minister stated that Somalia is a sovereign nation with the right to pursue the interests and well-being of its people, emphasizing that foreign policy is grounded in a clear position aligned with national interests.

Responding to questions regarding the government’s stance and its cooperative ties with regional states—specifically the recent agreement signed by Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, and Eritrea—he noted that the government had received no official correspondence concerning the matter in question, distinguishing between rumors circulating on social media and the government’s official positions.

The Minister also discussed the potential implications of political imagery and footage showing officials participating in meetings alongside conflicting regional parties. He pointed out that such measures could be subject to political interpretations that go beyond their intended purpose.

He noted that Somalia should maintain its neutrality and play a role in facilitating regional dialogue and cooperation, rather than fully aligning itself with one of the parties to a dispute.

Hassan Mohamed Ali also emphasized the importance of Somalia adhering to its independent policy, warning that shifting political stances could damage regional ties regarding security, trade, and cooperation.

Finally, the Deputy Minister stated that Somalia does not favor any specific party but has the right to clearly define its position, prioritizing the country’s sovereignty, security, and the commercial interests of the Somali people.
