A preliminary agreement has been reached on the dispute between the Danab forces in the Ligle camp on the outskirts of Garowe, which were formerly part of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The agreement was the result of a meeting held last night in Garowe, between a committee led by former Puntland President Senator Abdirahman Faroole and General Jimale, along with officers from the Danab Forces Command in Ligle.
As agreed, the forces deployed by Puntland to the Laacdheere area on the outskirts of Garowe will be withdrawn from there today, Saturday, while it was also agreed that all Danab forces will undergo a biometric system to become part of the Puntland forces, and restore their rights to Puntland.
The forces, which initially allowed the Puntland government to register 450 soldiers, are now required to undergo biometric registration for all forces, which are estimated to number 700. The registration process is scheduled to begin on Monday morning.
The agreement also stipulates that the troops be given the rights and funds they were missing, which was one of the main reasons for the conflict, after it was said that their salaries were deducted, which led to their transfer to the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Nugaal Elders’ Council also became guarantors of the agreement, with both parties promising to protect and implement the agreed provisions.
This agreement is a new step in seeking to end the conflict between the Puntland administration and the Danab Forces led by General Jimcaale, with reports today also indicating that Jimcaale has agreed to rejoin the Puntland Defense Forces, and to waive the possibility of his forces remaining part of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Danab Forces are the last force that belonged to the Federal Government to be taken over by Puntland, ending the influence of the Federal Government within Puntland.
