The governments of Somalia and Algeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Justice and Judiciary.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Government of Somalia, Hassan Moalim Mahmoud, and the Minister of Justice of the Government of Algeria, Lotfi Boudjemaa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Algiers to strengthen cooperation in the fields of justice and judicial affairs between the two countries.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Somali Ambassador to Algeria, Ambassador Yusuf Ahmed Hassan (Yusuf Jeego), and senior officials from the two ministries of justice.

The MoU is based on the strengthening of bilateral relations and the historical cooperation between Somalia and Algeria, and focuses on the exchange of experiences and expertise related to the reform and improvement of the justice system and judicial institutions.

The provisions of the agreement specifically focus on the development of laws and court procedures, the promotion of judicial independence, the application of the rule of law, and the protection of human rights, in order to build a justice system that is efficient, reliable, and responsive to the needs of citizens, according to a statement issued on the signing of the agreement.

The MoU was also described as key to increasing cooperation in the fields of legal education and research, reform of the prison system, the development of judicial infrastructure, and the use of modern technology to combat modern crimes, especially those related to technology and communications.

The officials of the two countries expressed the importance of this agreement in strengthening cooperation between justice institutions, stressing their commitment to implementing the provisions of the agreement, in order to achieve sustainable progress in the field of justice.
