The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Somalia has officially explained the reason for the postponement of the planned visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Mogadishu on January 9.

An embassy spokesman said that the decision to postpone the visit was due to a change in the Foreign Minister’s travel schedule, following friendly consultations between the Chinese and Somali foreign ministries.

He added that the Chinese government has adjusted Wang Yi’s travel schedule, and the two sides are currently discussing a new date for the visit.

The Chinese embassy stressed that the postponement will not have any impact on the relations between the two countries.

It stressed that Beijing attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with Somalia, and fully supports the Somali government’s efforts to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

China also expressed its readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Somalia in various fields, noting that the relationship between the two countries is long-standing and based on respect and mutual interest.

This press release came after some media outlets reported that the minister had avoided coming to Mogadishu due to security concerns, prompting the Chinese Embassy to issue an official statement.
