The Federal Government has once again addressed the recent elections in the Banadir region.

The Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia has congratulated the people of the districts of Banadir region on the historic elections for the Banadir Regional Council in Mogadishu held on 25 December 2025.

A press release from the Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation congratulated all the members who won the elections for the local councils in the districts of Banadir region.

The Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia described the elections as free and fair, and as having reached political and democratic maturity.

“The elections were contested freely and fairly by registered political organizations, and were largely reflected in public participation and full confidence in the democratic process. The number of voters who participated in the elections is evidence of the people’s desire to directly participate in leadership and decision-making at the local level,” the press release from the Ministry of Interior of Somalia said.

The Ministry of Federal Interior and Reconciliation also commended the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission for its success in conducting the Banadir Regional Council elections in an efficient, transparent, and professional manner.

The Ministry of Interior also urged the newly elected members of the Banadir Regional Council to play an important role in improving social services, strengthening accountability, promoting good governance, and implementing development projects that directly affect the lives and interests of the people of Banadir Region.

Finally, the Ministry expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the National Security Agencies, which it said responsibly, vigilantly, and competently ensured election security, leading to a peaceful, transparent, and successful election process.
