Some of the ministers and members of the Somali Federal Government from the northern regions of Somalia have strongly opposed Israel’s move to recognize Somaliland as an independent country from Somalia.
These members of the ministers and members of both houses of the Somali Federal Parliament are specifically from the Sool, Sanaag and Awdal regions, and they have clearly stated that they oppose the division of Somalia.
“We declare that we stand with the Somali government in protecting the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, we condemn the Israeli dictatorial regime that announced that it recognized Somaliland as an independent country from Somalia, and we also condemn any step that attempts to separate Somaliland from Somalia,” said a statement issued by the ministers and members of the northern regions.
Ministers and MPs from Sool, Sanaag and Awdal have fully supported the decisions of the Federal Government of Somalia regarding Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, stressing that the government is the only legitimate institution in the country’s foreign policy.
These officials also clarified that recent decisions by members of parliament and ministers from Hargeisa and Togdheer regions, who have not officially stated their decision regarding Israel’s violation of Somali sovereignty, do not apply to the people living in Sool, Sanaag, and Awdal regions.
These members also called on the Somali people to unite against any step that would disrupt the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia.
Finally, these officials thanked the international community and international organizations that have respected the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
