Workers at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu went on strike today, protesting the decision of Favori, the airport’s operator, to recently lay off several of its employees.
Reports from inside the airport indicate that up to 15 workers were laid off, and their names and work IDs were displayed during the protest.
Workers dressed in work uniforms were seen protesting inside the airport, in what appeared to be a sign of their disapproval and grievance against Favori’s decision.
The protesters called on the federal government of Somalia to intervene in the matter, to find a fair solution to reinstate the dismissed workers.
One of the workers said that the decision to dismiss their colleagues was illegal and had an impact on the daily operations of the airport.
So far, there has been no official statement from the Aden Adde airport management or the Favori company regarding the grievances and strike by the workers. The situation at the airport remains tense, with the workers demanding that their demands be considered.
