President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of Somalia and the chairman of the JSP political party, has officially registered for the one-person, one-vote election, a significant step in demonstrating his full support for the implementation of the electoral system.

The president’s registration comes at a time of increasing political debate and controversy over the country’s electoral process, and he has held several meetings with the country’s opposition leaders to discuss the issue.

The one-person, one-vote electoral system has become a hot topic among Somali politicians and the public. The Federal Government, led by President Hassan Sheikh, has repeatedly stated that by 2026, one-person, one-vote elections will be implemented nationwide, replacing the clan-based 4.5 system.

President Hassan Sheikh has repeatedly stated that the current system is “outdated” and that the Somali people have the right to have full power to directly elect their leaders.

However, the opposition and some regional governments have strongly criticized the plan, saying that there is no full preparation, security environment, and political confidence to hold such an election.

Reports indicate that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to meet with opposition leaders tomorrow to discuss the possibility of holding an inclusive national election and reach an agreement.

The meeting is expected to be decisive in the direction of the election, as the opposition has previously expressed concerns about the transparency and timing of the election.
