The new British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles Nicholas King, has officially handed over the military training center built by the British government in Baidoa to the Federal Government of Somalia Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi.
The center, which was opened by the British government in Baidoa in 2019, has greatly addressed the training and security needs of the armed forces, especially those operating in the South West administration.
The British government intends for the center to play a major role in training and supporting the Somali National Army, which is engaged in a fierce battle against Al-Shabaab militants.
The brief ceremony in which the Ministry of Defense took over the center was attended by senior officials from the British Embassy in Somalia, including Captain James Edwards, the military attaché at the British Embassy.
Somali Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, indicated that the center is of great importance in equipping the forces and accelerating operations to combat Al-Shabaab.
Finally, Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi thanked the British government for its continued support and assistance to Somalia in the areas of security and development.
