Kenyan newspaper Capital FM reports that the Kenyan government has officially established an investigation team to review Kenya Airways crashes in South Sudan and Somalia over the past five years.

The move comes after a Kenyan pilot was killed when his plane was shot down in Sudan’s Darfur region, and the team is investigating the causes of such crashes.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the seven-member team, led by experienced pilots Captain Peter Maranga and Frederick Kabong from the Ministry of Transport, has been tasked with reviewing initial reports of Kenya Airways crashes in or operating in South Sudan and Somalia.

The team’s work includes interviewing relevant authorities, examining and analyzing data, and verifying the accuracy of the information in these reports.

The Kenyan Defense Minister confirmed that the team will work for three months and will submit a comprehensive report containing the findings of the investigation and recommendations to address any concerns related to aviation safety to the Cabinet Secretary for appropriate action by the Kenyan aviation sector.
