Algeria and Somalia have requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the consequences of Israel’s attacks on Syria.
The request came after consultations and consensus among Arab representatives in New York, and the UN Security Council is expected to convene the meeting on Thursday, April 10.
The A3+ group of the United Nations Security Council (Algeria, Sierra Leone, and Somalia), along with the Republic of Guyana, reiterated their unwavering support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
These countries have previously called for non-interference in Syria’s internal affairs and for the immediate lifting of sanctions.
In a statement delivered by the Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Amar Benjamaa, speaking on behalf of these countries, while discussing a report on Syria, he stressed that what is worsening the security challenges are the constant bombings by Israeli warplanes on military sites in Syrian territory.
