Members of the Federal Government of Somalia from the Jareerweyne clan and the family of General Sheegow Ahmed Ali, may God have mercy on him, have strongly denied false reports that the deceased was poisoned, after he died suddenly last night at Digfeer Hospital in Mogadishu.
The family of the deceased and the Jareerweyne clan members of the Somali parliament have jointly stated that the reports are baseless and without any basis, and have appealed to the Somali community not to spread false information about Sheegow’s death. They also assured the public that the deceased died of a long illness, and there is no evidence to indicate that he was intentionally harmed.
“We urge people to remain calm and be careful about spreading unfounded news that hurts the dignity of the deceased and the feelings of his family,” said one of the family members who spoke to the media.
For her part, Minister Dahabo Suusow of the Federal Government and one of the relatives of the deceased, said that they were satisfied with the official report from Digfeer Hospital. She said that there was no need to create confusion and confusion over Sheegow’s death.
The Minister of Health of Somalia, Dr. Ali Haaji Adan, who also spoke to the press, revealed that General Sheegow died after his liver stopped working, with symptoms related to Hepatitis B.
General Sheegow Ahmed Ali was sentenced to 10 years in military prison by the Military Court in early November 2023, after he led a special forces unit that engaged in combat with the Somali federal government forces in mid-August 2023, causing heavy casualties and fighting in Mogadishu. The fighting resulted in Sheegow and other soldiers being captured, some of whom were sentenced to death and imprisonment.
The family of the deceased confirmed that General Sheegow’s funeral will be held in Mogadishu next Wednesday.
