The family of a soldier in the Kenyan army who was said to be in the hands of Al-Shabaab fighters for 9 years has asked the Kenyan government to help release their father.
Abdullahi Issa Ibrahim was one of the soldiers captured by al-Shabaab in the deadly attack by the Kenyan army in El Adde area on January 15, 2016.
Nine years after he was presumed dead, Sergeant has restored his family’s hope after a video surfaced showing Abdullahi pleading with the government for help.
“I am a Kenyan soldier. After the attack, we expected the Kenyan government to come forward to release us so we can reunite with our families,” he said in the video.
His family, who resides in Maline Estate in Eldoret, lost all hope of his life after they received his death certificate in Kenya in December 2020.
According to the sergeant’s daughter named Kathra, she received a phone call from a man in Somalia who claimed to be her father. Undoubtedly, Kathra asked for visual proof. A month later, her family found the image of their father.
The family now said that they are living in trouble because they are not aware of the physical and mental condition of their father, almost ten years since he was kidnapped by the Al-Shabaab group.
In addition to Abdullahi’s video, Al-Shabaab released another video of a Kenyan soldier from Trans-Nzoia. The soldier’s message is the same as he called on the Kenyan government to help him regain his freedom.
