The Minister of Health of Somaliland and the representative of Taiwan have officially signed an agreement today to modernize Hargeisa General Hospital, which will cost 22 million dollars. This step is part of a project to improve the health of Somaliland funded by Taiwan
Taiwan has also recently announced that it will support 2 million dollars in the holding of parallel elections in Somaliland.
“Democracy is a language we share, and freedom is a goal that unites us. Freedom and democracy are the fundamental values that connect Somaliland and Taiwan to the world” was published on the website of the Taiwan Representative Office in Hargeisa.
Taiwan and Somaliland, which are republics that do not have international recognition, established relations in 2020. Since then, Taiwan has helped Somaliland in several projects, the most important of which are mining, health development and elections.
Although Somaliland and Taiwan are looking for recognition in the first place, China and Somalia see their relationship as a violation of their independence, since these countries believe that Taiwan and Somaliland are part of their countries.
