More news is coming from an early morning attack by members of the Al-Shabaab group on a military base in the Balcad district of the Middle Shabelle region.
The attack that took place in a base called Ilbaq was reported to have started with explosions, and then followed by a direct fight that lasted for almost an hour, in which both sides used different types of weapons.
The aerial battle between the government forces and Al-Shabaab in Balcad district is said to have resulted in casualties including death and injuries, but the total number cannot be confirmed.
There is no news from the Federal Government regarding the damage caused by the attack this morning at the airport in Balcad district.
The base where the attack took place is one of the bases recently taken over by the government forces from the ATMIS forces, especially those from Burundi who have been in that base for a long time.
