Canadian runner Moh Ahmed, originally from Somalia, finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Ahmed ran 26:43.79, less than a second behind gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda, who set an Olympic record of 26:43.14.
With 300 meters to go, Ahmed began his final run, to get the medal he narrowly missed out on three years ago in Tokyo. Despite his hard work, he crossed the finish line behind Berihu Aregawi from Ethiopia and Grant Fisher from the United States, who won Silver and Bronze respectively.
The Somali-Canadian sprinter became the best Canadian ever in the 10,000m at the Olympics, bettering his sixth-place finish in Tokyo.
Ahmed, 33, was born in Somalia and grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario. He trains with the Bowerman Track Club in the United States.
He entered the Olympics ranked fifth in the world, overcoming muscle injuries earlier this year to qualify.
Canadian and Somali fans are eagerly awaiting Ahmed’s next performance in the 5000m race.
