The Ethiopian government has said that the al-Shabaab group is still a serious threat to the security and stability of its country and the Horn of Africa as a whole, saying that its security forces are on high alert to prevent Al-Shabaab.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Nebiyu Tedla, said that the Ethiopian troops in the border area and the troops that are part of the ATMIS operation are closely monitoring the activities of Al-Shabaab.

Prophet Tedla praised the Ethiopian forces in the country for reducing the threat from al-Shabaab, but he said that al-Shabaab is always a serious threat to the security of their country.

He said his government is committed to security cooperation with neighboring countries to reduce the threat posed by al-Shabaab to the security of the Horn of Africa.

The statement of the Ethiopian foreign affairs spokesman coincided with the fact that Ethiopia has deployed a large number of troops along the border and in some of the central regions of the country, which it said is part of the security of its troops that will soon leave Somalia.
