Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation last night where they discussed several issues.

The two presidents focused their meeting on the strengthening of relations between the two governments of Somalia and Turkey, which has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud that the Turkish government is committed to supporting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and the Somali people.

President Erdogan also promised strong support for the operations against the Al-Shabaab group in most regions of the country, which are part of the local army known as the Mawisleyda.

The phone conversation between the presidents of Somalia and Turkey is coming, as the Parliament of Turkey recently passed a plan to send troops from Turkey to Somalia as part of the implementation of the defense and economic cooperation agreement recently reached between Somalia and Turkey.
