The Somali government has said that more than 80 Al-Shabaab members were killed in a preventive operation carried out by the government forces in the areas of Buulo Haji, Sanguni and Harboole in the Lower Jubba region.

The government said that the al-Shabaab group launched a deadly attack on government military bases there, saying that they suffered heavy losses.

The government said that al-Shabaab had recovered a large number of weapons including heavy and light guns as well as ammunition.

The government did not mention the casualties suffered by the troops in this operation.

It was recently when Al-Shabaab was liberated from these areas, while Jubbaland said that the road between Kismayo and Afmadow was opened.
