Somalia and Turkey have signed an agreement on the exploration and production of oil and gas, and this agreement is another step to enhance the relationship between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in Istanbul by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar and the Minister of Petroleum and Minerals of Somalia, Abdirisaq Omar Mohamed.
Turkey’s energy minister announced that Turkey will send its research vessel Oruç Reis to conduct research in an area off the coast of Somalia by the end of this year.
Bayraktar, who spoke at the press conference, said that Turkey has been engaged in natural gas exploration efforts for the last eight years, using its drilling capabilities.
“We see this as an example today, that the agreement we signed with Somalia in this hall on March 7, 2024, has become practical today,” he added.
Turkey and Somalia signed an agreement in early March on oil and natural gas cooperation off the coast of Somalia.
During his speech, Bayraktar announced that Turkey will explore for natural gas and oil in three areas in the Somali Sea.
