Acting Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Somalia, James Swan, warned the Al-Shabaab group that it is still a strong threat.

James Swan, noted that the Somali government needs to give special importance to security during the transition period.

“Al-Shabaab remains committed to continuing terrorist attacks regardless of the loss of civilian life,” said the acting UN envoy.

The UN envoy said that Al-Shabaab still has the ability to carry out vicious attacks.

However, the Federal Government of Somalia has recently requested that the departure of ATMIS troops be slowed down, pointing out that 4,000 soldiers who would leave at the end of June, will be divided into sections.

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union supported and approved Somalia’s request, but the Security Council has not yet discussed Somalia’s request.

The Security Council resolution states that the ATMIS forces will completely withdraw from Somalia by the end of this year.
