The Ethiopian government has denied reports that it withdrew from the agreement it signed with Somaliland earlier this year.

A statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed Ali, has warned the public about false news being spread about the agreement.

“The Office of the Prime Minister advises the public to be wary of fake news circulating on social media about the understanding we have entered into with Somaliland,” the Ethiopian government said in a statement.

The statement of the office added that any information about internal, regional and international issues is broadcast only on the official website of the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

“We are warning people to be aware of fake news and people misusing our brand,” the statement added.

The response of the Ethiopian government comes after the past 24 hours have been circulating on social media with a letter bearing the logo of the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s Office saying that Ethiopia has withdrawn from the agreement.
