The federal government of Somalia said that the Al Shabaab were defeated in the battles that took place in the areas of Galmudug and Hirshabelle, that they gathered in the mountains of the eastern region of Puntland.
Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Addaala, speaking to the VOA Somali radio station, said that the federal government launched an attack against Al-Shabaab, who he said were organizing attacks against the people of Puntland.
Justice Minister said that this operation was a collaboration between the forces of the federal government of Somalia and those of the Puntland regional government, adding that this operation had been planned for some time.
“We have been closely monitoring their movements and organization, especially when they were heavily defeated in the southern regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, some of their groups were gathering in those areas, and we have been monitoring their information,” said the Deputy Minister of Information of Somalia.
Aladdala said that the operation was carried out by the top leaders of the camps where the Al-Shabaab fighters were gathered.
The minister did not talk about whether the highest officials of Puntland know about this operation, as there is a political conflict between Puntland and the federal government.
