James Swan, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Somalia, arrived today in Mogadishu.

A press release from the UNSOM Office said that James Swan will focus on supporting the Federal Government and the Somali people in the areas of safety, security, development, and government building.

UN Secretary General António Guterres appointed Mr. Swan announced on May 14. Mr. Before Swan arrived in Mogadishu, he held extensive meetings with the leaders of the United Nations Headquarters.

James Swan previously served as the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia from 2019 to 2022, and it was also pointed out that he worked for a long time in the diplomatic service of the United States.

Ambassador Swan, who will manage the office temporarily, plans to complete the work of the UNSOM office, which is planned to be reviewed this year.

The temporary appointment of James Swan also coincides with the fact that the federal government and the Puntland regional government and the opposition are in a very difficult political situation.
