The United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, said that the number of deaths from Cholera has increased by more than 120 people since January.

10,647 new cases of Cholera disease were reported in seven regions of Somalia, which means the death rate of Cholera cases reached 1.1 percent.

“More resources are needed to meet the needs of the affected population,” OCHA said in its report.

OCHA added that the heavy rains that are falling in the country are expected to worsen the cholera disease that has already broken out in some areas.

The United Nations has described the outbreak of cholera in Somalia as the reason for the increasing number of people, who do not have clean water and good sanitation.

In 2023, more than 18,304 cases and 46 deaths were reported in Somalia, of which more than half were children under the age of five.
