The Somaliland military has promised that it will retake the parts it has lost in the Sool region, and will pass Lasanod.

Somaliland’s military commander Nuh Ismail Tani, who spoke to government media, said that his army is still strong and will recover the land he lost in the Battle of Lasan.

“I am telling the people of Somaliland that we are quickly reaching the limit of time. The army is the one who sacrifices their lives for the country, and they have their power and strength,” said Commander Taani.

The Somaliland military has lost control of most of the Sool region, and the capital city of Lasanood, after a months-long war in which the local people, with the help of forces from Puntland, opposed Somaliland, and finally on 25 August 2023, the Somaliland forces were defeated.

Somaliland believes that the Sool region is part of its territory, having trained many troops after the defeat of its army, while the local people have established an independent administration from Somaliland named SSC Khatumo, which the Somali government has recognized as an interim administration.

The administration of SSC Khatumo wants to expand its rule in the regions of Sool, Sanaag and Ayn, so that it becomes a full member of the Federal Government of Somalia.
