Puntland has defended its relations with the Ethiopian government, pointing out that the Federal Government of Somalia has no power to prevent relations with neighboring countries such as Ethiopia.
The Minister of Information of Puntland, who spoke to the press in Garowe, said so, noting that the federal constitution and the Puntland constitution allow the Puntland people to be independent in their interests while Somalia has an equal federal government.
The minister underlined the economic importance of relations with Ethiopia, saying that Puntland’s business is highly dependent on its relations with Ethiopia.
Ayidi said that Puntland is calling for a meeting to discuss the governance of Somalia, saying that the country cannot act on a changed constitution and orders from Hamar.
Since the two houses of the parliament passed the amendments to the constitution of Somalia, Puntland strongly opposed it, taking measures including losing confidence in the federal government.
