The Puntland administration has strongly opposed the federal government’s efforts to change the country’s interim constitution.
The Minister of Justice of Puntland, Mohamed Abdi Wahab, said that President Hassan Sheikh wants to remove the agreement of the government of Somalia, which he said will lead to political and security crisis in the country.
The Minister of Justice of Puntland said, that Puntland agrees to amend the constitution to go through the right way in accordance with Chapter 15 of the constitution, which states that its amendment should be done through a process that the constitution says, which includes agreement and consultation. made from it.
“What the president and his government are doing in Hamar is causing a setback for the nation. It means that the constitution or the single text that was agreed upon by the Somali people after 50 years is being thrown out of the window today, and is going down an illegal path. This is not working, Somali sovereignty and the constitution, Hassan and his small group cannot change it,” said the minister of justice.
The minister said that if the federal government illegally changes the constitution, Puntland will not recognize and act on those changes.
He said that there is a need to be careful about any action that could cloud the nationalism and unity of the Somali country.
