The government of Somaliland and the opposition party, UCID, have agreed that the election should be held on time, that Somaliland’s airspace should be returned and that the agreement with Ethiopia should be implemented.
After a meeting held by President Bihi and Chairman of the UCID Party, Faysal Ali Warabe, the media spoke to the Chairmen of the UCID and Kulmiye parties.
“We are announcing to the people of Somaliland that it has been agreed that the elections will be held on time, in 2024, in November, and we are also announcing to you that we have regained our airspace today,” Chairman Warabe said.
He also said that it was also agreed to quickly implement the understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia, which he said will lead to Somaliland becoming an independent country.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somaliland, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, who is the Chairman of the Kulmiye Party, said that it was agreed that the elections should be held on time, that Somaliland should take over its airspace, and that the agreement with Ethiopia should be implemented as soon as possible.
The Somaliland Legislature is expected to issue an official version of the electoral law on Saturday, which has been controversial lately.
