The Minister of Internal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, held a special meeting with the members of the two councils from Awdal region together with local politicians.

The minister first thanked the officials and politicians of Awdal for opposing Ethiopia’s desire to take part of Somalia’s land and water.

Ahmed Macalin Fiqi also said at the meeting that there is a need to jointly face the defense of the independence and unity of the country.

The members of the two councils and the politicians of Awdal said that they are against and will never accept the traditional desire of Ethiopia to have a sea, and that it is committed to prevent the desire of Ethiopia and the defense of Somali land.

In conclusion, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia underlined that the federal government will never negotiate on the unity of its land and the unity of its people.

At the beginning of January this year, the Ethiopian government signed an agreement with Somaliland president Muse Bihi Abdi in Addis Ababa.

The agreement was for Ethiopia to receive part of Somalia’s water, and in return for Somaliland to recognize it as an independent state, and the agreement was greatly opposed by the government of Somalia and more than 120 countries.
