A cargo ship called ‘MV LILA NORFOLK’ was hijacked late last night near the coast of Somalia.
A warship belonging to the Indian Navy is closely monitoring the hijacked ship, according to military officials on Friday.
There are 15 Indians on the ship, and communication has been made with the crew.
According to military officials, information about the hijacked ship off the coast of Somalia was received on Thursday evening. In addition, Indian Navy aircraft are guarding the ship.
“The Indian Navy is committed to ensuring the safety of merchant vessels in the region along with international partners and friendly countries,” said a spokesperson for the Indian Navy.
The hijacking of this ship coincided with the fact that the pirates had previously hijacked a ship and several fishing boats, which are being held in Somali waters.
The pirates have demanded millions of dollars in ransom, and now it is reported that talks are going on between the pirates and the owners of one of the ships held off the coast of Somalia.
