The Puntland parliamentary committee has once again failed to get the support of the parliamentarians for the implementation of the Puntland elections reform law.

In a meeting that lasted for hours and ended at dawn, more than 35 MPs suggested that this law should be removed altogether, or that it should be suspended while the peace efforts are being carried out by the SSC-Khatumo Cultural Council.

The speaker of the parliament, Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, said that the law is being discussed and will be presented to the parliament again for debate. Although many MPs have said that this law will not be brought back to the council.

The meeting ended without any agreement. However, the speaker of the parliament said that tomorrow the council will be off, and he will announce when it will reconvene.
If the parliament rejects this law, President Deni will face a big challenge that will oppose his political plan of electing a person and a vote.

The controversial law was drafted by the Election Commission. He points out that on the 25th of the 2nd month of 2024, the election of the president and the parliament will be held simultaneously, with the election being a person and a vote.
