The Somali government is very hopeful that joining the East African Community will be officially approved during the 23rd summit of the EAC leaders, which will open this Friday in Aarusha, Tanzania.

If approved, Somalia will officially become the 8th member of the EAC.

Somalia began the process of joining the EAC community in 2012, making it the 11th year since the start of talks.

It will be the last step to decide the fate of Somalia to join the organization, after negotiations that were moderated by Abdisalan Omar Hadliye, Somalia’s envoy to the EAC negotiations.

In August of this year, a nine-day dialogue was held in Nairobi, Kenya between Somalia and experts from the seven EAC countries, the EAC Secretariat, the East African Legislative Council, and the Eastern Court of Justice. Africa.

The Secretary General of the EAC Mr. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki said that joining the community will enable Somalia to benefit from the economic infrastructure projects of the EAC, such as roads, railways, and energy connections.
