The Kenyan police have confirmed that 20 al-Shabaab fighters have been killed in an operation carried out by its forces in areas bordering Somalia.
While patrolling in Mandera city, a special unit of the police carried out an ambush, where 20 al-Shabaab were killed, according to the police on their official Twitter page.
Police said they recovered a variety of weapons from the scene of the attack, including assault rifles and long-range rockets.
The attack came a few days after Kenya announced that there had been a delay in the plan to reopen the border with Somalia.
Kenya says it is dealing with deadly attacks by Al-Shabaab.
