The United States has appointed Ambassador Richard H. Riley as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Somalia.
The new ambassador has risen to the top of US foreign policy.
Richard H. Riley, is a senior member of the Foreign Service. He became Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada.
The new ambassador was the US Consul General in Peshawar, Pakistan. He has also served in senior leadership positions such as Deputy Ambassador (Charge d’Affaire), and Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway, Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Embassy in Sana’a. , Yemen, and the Senior Representative of the Reconstruction Team in Nangahar Province, Afghanistan.
He was also the Deputy Director of the Egyptian Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Senior Coordinator for Democracy and Human Rights at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
If passed by the U.S. Senate, he would replace Larry André, who has been in office since February 2022.
