Marian Hussein, a member of parliament from Groruddalen in the northeast of Oslo in Norway, has made new history after being elected as the new deputy leader of the Socialist Vänsterpartiet (SV).

Initially, the SV election committee was in favor of Lars Haltbrekken, but Marian Hussein appeared at her party’s convention and was elected vice president. During a competitive vote at the national conference of the SV party, on Saturday afternoon.

Marian Hussein defeated Lars Haltbrekken, the long-time leader of the SV party, with 114 votes.

36-year-old Marian expressed happiness after her victory and said, “We have a lot of work to do. We will continue our fight for the environment and social justice, now, as the Deputy Leader, and we will continue to build the party and Our movement.” She said this in a statement sent to the Norwegian News Agency.

Fans of Marian Hussein said that her background, and her campaign against racism deserved her victory.

Maryan Hussein, who was born in Somalia, moved to Norway at the age of ten, and became the spokesperson for her party’s health policy.

In 2021, she made history by becoming the first parliamentary representative of African descent in the Norwegian legislature.

She was also elected to represent her constituency in north-east Oslo 2021-2025 and was a member of the Oslo municipal council 2015-2019.
