Somalia has become a full member of the East African Community after a vote was taken.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and a large delegation accompanying him, are in the city of Arusha, the capital of Tanzania, where it was decided to join Somalia in this organization.
The President chaired the membership of the Republic of Somalia and its request to join this umbrella was accepted.
He mentioned the efforts he has been making since 2016 to be part of this umbrella, as according to him it is an opportunity for the Somali people to have access to an international market, business opportunities and easy travel.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud praised Somali experts and diplomats who worked to convince the member countries to accept Somalia’s request.
“Today, as we open a new page in the history of Somalia, it is a great honor for me to stand before you as we officially become members of the East African Community. This is not only a reflection of our vision but a reflection of a better future, opportunities and capabilities of our society. We joined this umbrella to strengthen friendly relations, participate in joint development, and play a role in the good future of the people of the region,” said the president.
He finally thanked the East African countries for accepting the request of the Somali government to join this umbrella, and he presented the benefit for the people and East African countries that Somalia joins.
