The former Speaker of the Somali Parliament, Mohamed Osman Jawari, said that they will go to Baidoa on October 5, based on the agreement reached in Baidoa regarding the schedule of elections for the South West administration.

Prof. Jawari, who led a political delegation including the former president of the South West, said that they met with the Speaker of the Somali Parliament and discussed the implementation of the South West election agreement.

“We are not afraid to go to the city of Baidoa, and the election will be held. We are going to implement the agreement reached in Baidoa,” said Jawari.

Jawari said that they want the South West elections to start, and the federal government which was the mediator in the agreement reached in Baidoa city should work to implement the agreement and work to start the election activities next month.

He said that he has no fear that the president of the South West, Abdicasis Lafta Gareen, will stand in the way of the election. He said that it is difficult to implement the agreement in Baidoa, which indicates that the election will be held in January 2024.

Jawari’s statement comes at a time when the South West president refused to allow opposition politicians to come to Baidoa, and there is no election activity in the South West.

President Lafta Gareen signed the agreement of the consultative council in Mogadishu which states that regional government elections will be unified and held at the end of 2024.

But the agreement has not yet been passed by the Somali Parliament.
