The government of Somaliland has said that the intention of the ongoing talks with Somalia is not to re-democracy but to break up.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland stated that Somaliland’s position in the talks is that Somaliland and Somalia will end.

“We declare to the nation of the Republic of Somaliland that any dialogue between the Republic of Somaliland and Somalia is not a union but the way the two previously united governments discuss secession and separation,” the statement said.

This document was discussed with the African Union and other international communities, a day after the president of Uganda said that he will be part of the mediation of the two sides to reunify.

“Therefore, the Republic of Somaliland proves once again to the African Union and the rest of the world community that it is not ready for dialogue with the aim of unity,” the statement said.

The talks between Somaliland and Somalia, which have been held intermittently for 10 years in different countries, have not made any significant progress.
