The US ambassador to Mogadishu, Larry Andre, said that the American-led parade that was supposed to take place earlier this year in Berbera was canceled due to the Lasaan war.
Andre, who recently gave an interview to the BBC, said that the parade was postponed after a fight broke out between the Somaliland army and the residents of Lasaanood.
“That’s why we’re canceling and postponing it,” said Andre
This exercise, which the United States has previously said will take place in Berbera, would be part of a series of military exercises that would take place in East Africa, and at that time the troops of Botswana, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Djibouti, Somalia and as well as the Somaliland army.
Andre, who spoke about a trip by American officials to Berbera before the announcement of the parade, noted that they went to Berbera to check the capacity of Berbera Port.
“We wanted to assess the capabilities and functionality of the port of Berbera in case US military ships need fuel or other services,” said Andre.
It is the first time that the US government has spoken about the reason for canceling this military exercise which also took place in parts of the African coast.
