The National Consultative Council last night reached historic electoral agreements, with the agreement that next year there will be one person and one vote election, and the election will take place once every five years.
Somali leaders have also agreed to remove the position of the Prime Minister, replacing it with a system where the president and his deputy are directly elected by the people once.
Therefore, former Prime Ministers and other politicians described the new agreement as impossible for Somalia’s elections. Some say he is worsening the political situation in the country.
The former Prime Minister of the country and former president of Puntland, Abdiweli Gaas, described the electoral agreement reached last night by the National Consultative Council of Somalia as unacceptable.
Adiweli Gaas, who posted on his Facebook page, described this agreement as unacceptable for the Somali nation and the current awareness.
“The news that came from Villa Somalia last night is not acceptable and it is not something that can be eaten by the Somali nation and the current situation,” said Abdiweli Gaas.
On the other hand, the former prime minister of the country, Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, described the agreement as a poison for the political situation of the country.
“Has the National Consultative Council replaced the old military regime… and the multi-party system that has been abolished and a single party system has been re-established, is adding poison to the country’s political situation,” Omar Abdirashid said.
On the other hand, the director of the Research Institute of Heritage Afyare Ilmi also spoke about the electoral agreement signed by the National Consultative Council.
“It will not be easy to implement the NCC Agreement. These are big decisions made by several leaders. The leaders who have made these decisions are required to satisfy the central government councils and regional government councils. The opposition and the civil society who have a point of view are also present”, said Afyare Ilmi.
Puntland’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdi Farah Syed Juha, said the decisions of the consultative council are those that are against the constitution of the Federal and Regional Governments and all the agreements that were made after the collapse.
“THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF THE 1969 REVOLUTION WITHOUT TEETH. The council last night suspended the Federal and State Constitutions and all the agreements that were made after the collapse. “If it’s that easy, why is there a 30-year gap?” said Minister Juxa.
