The United Nations has announced that it has received a sum of 2.4 billion dollars to fund aid operations for about 32 million people living in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia.

But the United Nations said that these donations fell short of the economic funding it was looking for as it warned of a disaster caused by drought in East African countries.

The United Nations has requested more than 7 billion dollars for the three countries, but before the meeting that was promised on Wednesday, only 25% of Somalia has been funded, Ethiopia 22% and Kenya only 21%.

The United Nations has identified the Horn of Africa as the epicenter of the world’s worst climate emergencies.

“Drought threatens lives and livelihoods of millions in Horn of Africa: Longest drought on record. Mass displacement after years of conflict and insecurity. Food prices have skyrocketed,” said Antoni Guterres.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, about 40,000 people died in the drought in Somalia last year; half were children under the age of five, according to Antoni Guterres.
