The Ministry of Health and Social Care of the Federal Government of Somalia has announced the safe quarantine of a Somali citizen confirmed to have traveled with an individual who died from Ebola, although it has not yet been confirmed whether the citizen is infected with the disease.

In a press release issued on October 12, 2026, the Ministry stated that the citizen was placed in quarantine on October 11 after it was discovered that he had traveled with a person who died of Ebola.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the citizen was transferred to the Ebola Quarantine and Treatment Center at Forlanini Hospital in Mogadishu, where medical assessments and monitoring are being conducted to determine his health status.

The Ministry reported that Somalia’s International Health Regulations (IHR) office received official notification regarding the Somali citizen from its counterpart in Uganda on October 10, 2026. As noted in the statement, the citizen was among the passengers on a flight departing from Uganda and heading to the Congo, having transited through Uganda. The press release added that the citizen spent the night at a hotel located at Entebbe Airport in Uganda before boarding a flight to Mogadishu.

The Ministry also stated that on October 11, the Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency confirmed the citizen’s arrival at Mogadishu Airport, where he underwent standard travel health screening procedures. It was later discovered that he had traveled with an individual who had died from Ebola.

To prevent the spread of the disease, the Ministry of Health stated that the citizen has been transferred to the quarantine facility at Forlanini Hospital, where he is undergoing medical assessment and continuous monitoring.

The Ministry clarified that the citizen has not yet been confirmed to have Ebola, noting that the measures taken are part of efforts to contain the risk of the disease and protect public health.

Meanwhile, the Ministry urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information. It also encouraged people to follow official health advice and obtain information about the disease only from reliable sources.
